TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT POLICY

 

Aim -

 

The Agency is committed to providing its staff and support workers access to appropriate training courses, relevant to each individual identified need, and to provide training which is affordable and wherever possible free of charge. All mandatory courses will be provided in-house free of charge. The Agency will seek to work in partnership with its customers in providing opportunities for work-based practice. The Agency will also endeavour to promote high standards of practice amongst its registrants. This policy should be cross - referenced with the Agency’s policy on Recruitment.

 

Objective -

 

To identify the training and development needs of each individual. This will be achieved through Interview, Selection, Assessment and Appraisal.

To provide Mandatory Training Moving and Handling, Adult Protection, Food Hygiene, Fire Awareness, Infection Control, RIDDOR, COSHH and Health and Safety, as required by the Commission for Social Care Inspection. To encourage a culture of learning development, and to offer support and guidance as required. To strive towards ensuring that all contractors are accessing NVQ training/ qualification in line with National Care Standards requirements for 2008.

 

Outcome -

 

To equip individuals with learning outcomes that will satisfy the expectations of the customer.  To also demonstrate the Agency’s commitment to providing a quality based service for its customers, staff and registrants.

 

Protocol -

 

Training and development status of all applicants will be identified during initial selection interview and at subsequent Appraisal interviews, carried out at six weekly, six monthly and annual intervals.

 

All mandatory topics i.e. Manual Handling, Food Hygiene, Fire Awareness, Infection Control, COSHH, RIDDOR and Health and Safety will be addressed annually with all support workers

 

Evidence of previous training courses   completed outside of the Agency, must be provided.

 

All new registrants will undergo mandatory training as part of their 4 day Induction prior to being offered work assignments.

 

Each individual will have a Training Record, documenting all training courses attended. Copies of training certificates will be kept on file.

 

This policy will be reviewed annually or at intervals appropriate to changes in legislation that may affect the outcome of the policy.
